When creating vertical videos (9:16 aspect ratio) for popular platforms like TikTok, Instagram Reels, and YouTube Shorts, optimizing your layout is key. Because each application overlays its native user interface (UI)—such as profile badges, description margins, captions, and interactive sharing options—your videos can easily look cluttered if text, subtitles, or crucial action frames overlap with these icons. Our Social Media Safe Zone Checker simulates these visual elements directly in your browser.
TikTok has the densest UI obstruction map. The top 13% is occupied by navigation tabs, and the bottom 25% is fully obscured by captions, usernames, and music tags. The right-side interaction bar covers approximately 15% of the right border.
Reels offer slightly more vertical margin. The top header covers 10% for the navigation bars. The bottom caption section is lower (occupying about 20% of the screen height), and the right sidebar spans roughly 15% of the frame.
YouTube Shorts feature a minimal top overlay (8%), but the right-side feedback buttons (Like/Dislike/Share) sit wide, blocking 15% of the lower-right area. The lower 18% of the frame is obscured by channel details.
